Let’s have another cup o’ coffee and let’s have another … award?!?!

Maybe I should start my day with tea or juice or something other than coffee. With the WP problems still around, every day I awake to a fresh batch of posts to view, some as much as a day old. This morning, coffee in hand, I learned that Sawsan of Chef in Disguise had passed to me the Versatile Blogger Award. This was every bit as unexpected as was yesterday’s Liebster Award — and certainly no less appreciated. So, thank you Sawsan for this honor and, for the rest of you, if you’ve not checked out Chef in Disguise, this is your opportunity to do so. Beautifully photographed, Sawsan takes even the most complicated recipes and breaks them down into easy to follow, step-by-step instructions that even a novice like myself can follow. Now that’s something!

As for the Award, I believe I’m expected to share 7 little known facts about myself. So, here goes, in no apparent order:

1. I am an I Love Lucy fan and member of the We Love Lucy Fan club. Honestly, what’s not to love?

2. I’ve mentioned Max a few times and Lucy once. Here are their pics. Max-A-Million is a boxer mix, Lucy a female Eclectus Parrot. Max got his name because it was a million to one shot that he’d end up with me. Lucy, well, look at her pic and read No. 1 above. And, yes, Max’s left eye is partly blue.

3. I’m allergic to penicillin, having found out the “hard way.” Luckily, the doctor who administered the shot insisted I wait 20 minutes before leaving for home. He saved my life.

4. Zia and I once led a procession of the faithful to meet John-Paul II after one of his Wednesday public audiences.

5. A life-long smoker, I quit 2 years ago — and this time it’s for good.

6. If you’re lucky enough to wait on my table in a restaurant, don’t bother reciting the dessert options and you can keep the dessert menu. Just bring me cheesecake and I will be one very happy diner.

7. During high school, I worked at a family owned, Italian foods processing plant.

Well, that’s 7 and it’s too bad I’m limited to only 7. I guess I’ll have to wait until next time before I can talk about my years in the French Foreign Legion, my volunteer work on the island of hangnail sufferers, my prison record, and my contributions to nuclear fusion research.

Now comes the hard part, nominating 15 others for this award. I know a few of the bloggers I follow have recently received this award and, so, I’ll try not to double nominate anyone. And, even though I may have nominated a few of you yesterday for the Liebster Award, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to learn more about you. I hope you don’t mind my mentioning you again. And if I’ve missed anyone, please forgive me.

Um … that’s not 15?

8. I can’t count.

And, thank you again, Sawsan.

Note: I don’t know why there’s no title and cannot get the font back to normal After about a dozen attempts at correcting this — none of which shows up in the drafts — I give up.

No. 9  I’m a quitter!

  1. Bwahahaha! I was getting ready to give this back to you! I think we need to widen our circle…
(Cecilia gave it to me on Thursday while I was cleaning out the basement.)

The title shows up in the post, but in lower-case…is that what you saw in the draft?

    • I didn’t check Cecilia’s list close enough. Maybe I should start my day with espresso ..
You may be looking at an earlier edition, one before I tried to correct some spacing problems involving the photos. That’s when it all went wrong. Right now, my draft copy looks perfect but the published version has no title (on my home page) and is in a smaller font. I need to just leave it for a while and get back to it later. It’s probably some setting that I inadvertently changed — at least that’s what I’m telling myself. Anyway, Congrats, in advance, for your award!

    • Thanks, Tanya, “Big Man” will quit smoking when he is ready. That’s the way it is for most of us. I chose to quit on my Dad’s birthday 2 years ago and haven’t had one since — but, boy, have I thought about it! Not to worry. I’m not going back — but I may take a deep breath, or two, if downwind of a smoker.

    • Thanks, Greg. I have a New York-style cheesecake recipe that I’ll post nearer the holidays. I need to throw a dinner party so that I can take pics of it before serving. I refuse to make a cheesecake without some means of sharing it. Well, not again, anyway.

  2. Nice to get to know a bit more about you and Max and Lucy!! I’m a total cheesecake lover when I’m not dipping my biscotti! I’m curious like Greg if you have a favorite cheesecake recipe?? Congrats again to you! Wonder what will be popping up in your email tomorrow??!!

    • Thanks, Linda. I have a couple recipes but my fave is a New York-style that takes a few hours to make and weighs a ton. Beyond that one, I’ve also got Mom’s favorite recipe and another for a ricotta cheesecake. Yeah, I love my cheesecakes!

        • Why, of course, Linda, your blog made my list! You brought the World eggplant meatballs! You gave us a recipe for peanut butter dog biscuits that Max and all of his Buds go crazy over. If I didn’t include you, I’d have to sleep with one eye open. I love your blog and you’ve been very supportive of mine. Of course you made my list!

It was lovely to learn more about you and kudos on quitting smoking 2 years ago – I quit 6 years ago and cannot believe I ever smoked!

  4. Hi John, thanks for the nomination. I knew I can count on you … I’ll try not to let you down now that you have “recommended” my blog to ALL your readers πŸ˜‰
By the way, your blog looks fine to me (fonts, post, etc.)
    Thanks again!

    • You are very welcome — and deserving, too. I love that you share recipes that I am not at all familiar with, all of which beautifully photographed by Pilar. Others, I’m sure, will agree.

As for my blog’s problems, when I view my home page, today’s post has no title and appears in a smaller font. If I access the post on its own, it is fine. I’ve tried every way that I can to get the two images to look alike and I have given up — at least for today. Hope springs eternal for tomorrow …

  5. Cheesecake! You’re speaking my language. That’s all that my son and I order for dessert when we go out to eat. There’s an Italian restaurant near O’Hare that makes a killer cheesecake. Mr. N specifically requested an entire cheesecake from there for his birthday one year. Congrats on another award – and Max and Lucy are adorable!

  6. Congratulations on your award! Wow! Thank you for the nomination! I’ve only been at this since the middle of June and still feel more in the infancy of a blog – not quite to the point of awards!

I’ve always been a Lucy fan, too! She’s captured the hearts of many – and will continue to do so! You can’t help but smile when you think of all her crazy antics and situations!

    • Thank you. And, yes, Lucy is the best! I’ve seen her shows enough times to be able to mouth some of the dialogue but I laugh every bit as hard at every one of her antics. There will never be another like her, to be sure.

    • Oh, Cecilia, there is so much more to me beyond my nuclear fusion work. I didn’t even mention my years working for the —– as a ————- over in ———–, ———————, & ———– ——————-. I was afraid that if I did, THEY would censor my post. Silly, huh?

  9. Congrats on back-to-back awards! Max and Lucy are adorable. Thanks for sharing these facts so we can get to know you a bit better. Like others said, I’m definitely with you on the cheesecake bit! πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, Caroline. Yes, the kids are great, although Lucy simply cannot stand Max and he is totally oblivious to her hatred. It never fais to crack me up. Him with his back to the cage and she repeatedly charging the cage wall, trying to peck his tail through the bars. And cheesecake is the only way to go!

  10. John, Congratulations and thank you! I was a bit tied up so it took a while to get here. I’m working on the relaunch and trying to keep post to a minimum. That said thank you so much!

    • I realize you’ve a lot going on David and, truth be told, there’s no law stating you have to fulfill the Award’s requirements now, if at all. Hopefully, the Award has done what I had intended, and that’s to introduce to others a blog that I enjoy following.
