  1. Absolutely love the song John. It is stuck in my head now, but I’m quite happy about that. We’re very partial to 50s Italian crooners in our house (and US/Italian crooners too for that matter)! Happy St. Joseph’s Feast Day.

  2. I Wiki’d St Joseph’s Feast Day because I had no idea what it was about… what a great day to celebrate – thank you for sharing. The music clip was fun, and I love the pic of the daffs 🙂

    • Thanks, EllaDee. St Joe’s Feast Day, though commemorated, isn’t really celebrated in our part of Italy, at least not like in Sicily. Same at my family home. Still, I’ve never been one to let a good reason to party to go to waste. Glad you enjoyed the post. The daffs are from my front garden last year. They are weeks away from blooming this year.

  3. It’s not a very spring-like day here in London today -it’s cold, grey and wet. However you have made it all seem much brighter with the picture and that cheerful music! Happy St Joseph’s Day to you too.

  4. A terrific way to start the day! Thanks for the music. Are you making special soup today?
The Feast with the Bread Altar I photographed last year is going to be on Sunday the 25th so I’ll miss it. They have a mass right at the restaurant first. Have to run to school.

    • Thanks, Ruth. I had a special pasta planned but I’ve got a fridge full of leftovers that need to be dealt with. THe pasta can wait another day or two. That bread last year was something else! Even Zia was amazed when I showed her you post. Too bad you’ll miss it. Next year’s will be all the more special.

    • And a happy St Josephs Day to you, too, Maria! Our flowers will be late this year. In fact, tomorrow’s high will be lucky to reach 25˚. Even so, it won’t be that long. It’s not like this is Thanksgiving weekend. 🙂

  6. Right now, if I closed my eyes while I am sitting in my office, sipping on a double espresso (no sugar, no milk) I am instantly transported to a small café in Italy, fronting onto a square with a wonderful fountain, early morning, springtime (just cool enough that you need a light sweater to sit outside).
And then I open my eyes and it’s grey, cold, snowy and the stupid pigeons are cooing on the Juliette balcony.
Thanks for the mini vay-cay, John. Hope you have a wonderful day.

    • Mute? Really? No one else has the problem. Are your speakers on? Here is the orignal link on YouTube. That should work for you. Of course, if I misunderstood your original comment, never mind. 🙂

      • Ha! John, in this part of the world Sicilian immigrant communities celebrate St. Joseph’s Day with feasts, serving a homemade fresh pasta dish with fava beans, lentils, cauliflower and fennel. When a new guest arrives someone calls out: “Como siamo tutti mute?!” and everyone else answers, “Viva, Jesus, Maria Giu-seeeeep-PI!” Ken

        • Thanks for the clarification, Ken. I’d no idea. We’re not Siciliani and, as a transplant to this area, I haven’t the Italian roots I may have had if I were born here. I’m familiar with the feasts, breads, and zeppole but not much else. Then again, Chicago celebrates St. Pat’s, while St Joe is pretty much ignored, except in the area’s Little Italy’s. Although we’ve a sizable Italian community here, we’ve far more Polish and Irish.
Again, thank you. Im going to “spring” this on Zia when I speak with her later today. 🙂

  7. HAPPY ST. JOSEPH’S DAY TO YOU! A happy song. I felt like dancing all over the house. Instead I danced around my table. Glad no one was home to see me. I can’t dance. 🙂

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  8. Do you know how happy you made me feel?
Which of course, made my entire day divine!
And then naturally, I tried to share that feeling with everyone around me.

    Thank you, thank you.
And thank you, St. Joseph, for guiding my husband and for all the work he has.
    Grazie, Grazie!!
    Ciao from Oregon——x

    • Hope you had a good day, too! Here’s a brief St. Joe summary, keeping in mind I’m no cleric…

The Feast commemorates St Joseph, the earthly father of Christ. In the Middle Ages, or so the legend says, Sicily was gripped by a severe drought. The crops and livestock withered and died and the people were starving. They prayed to St Joseph to intercede on their behalf, promising to forever celebrate his feast day in return. Their prayers were answered and to this day, his Feast Day is celebrated throughout Sicily and wherever Sicilians have emigrated. Hope this helps. 🙂

  9. Probably last to comment, but you have just made my day too: you should see the big smile on my face 🙂 ! Hope you had a happy St Joseph’s Day and tipiti tipiti ta [dancing off my breakfast too!!] to you from the Antipodes 😀 !

    • Last, yes, but certainly not least, Eha. I’m glad you liked the song. Lou Monte was often played at parties when I was a young boy and seemed like a fitting choice for today. Hope you had a great day and that today is more of the same for you. Tipiti tipiti ta!

      • Darn it! Have opened my front door not once but three times this morning going on ‘tipiti tipiti ta’!! You try to explain to someone wanting to speak with you seriously that you have not fallen afoul of a ‘crazy bug’! Eyes seem to glaze over when you begin ‘well, it’s all about St Joseph’s day you see’ . . . .;) !

        • Ah, my work here is done! I’ve people on at 4 continents “tipiti-ta-ing” for seemingly no reason whatsoever. You’re lucky I’m a good person and won’t abuse this power. 🙂
I hope you’re having a great day, Eha!

  10. This is utterly fantastic. I listened to it five times in a row, I kid you not.

You know how, in Star Wars, Darth Vader is always accompanied by the same theme music whenever he appears on screen? I want to claim this as my theme music.

    • Now that would be something, hearing “Tipiti tipiti ta!” whenever you walked into a room. I can hear the whispers already, “Now she really know how to make an entrance!”
I’m glad you enjoyed the post and thanks for the late night chuckle. 🙂

    • Thank you so much, April. Some of these old songs are just fun, whether or not you know the language. When I heard this one, I just had to use it for St. Joe’s and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
